Go ye therefore, and teach all nations - Matthew 28:19a
Why do you believe this?
With eternal life at stake, you should make the decision to be an atheist very carefully. The Bible prophesied that this would be a common belief in the end days.
''Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation.''
For this they willfully forget: that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of water and in the water, by which the world that then existed perished, being flooded with water.- 2nd Peter 3:4b-6
If the theory of evolution is keeping you from believing in a Creator God, I would challenge you to look at the theory of evolution from both sides. If you are not willing to do this, then you are being willingly ignorant. If you want to at least understand the other side, please take five minutes and read the Seven Absurdities of Evolution . If you make the wrong decision, it will have eternal consequences, and you will feel like a jackass when you miss of the Kingdom of Heaven because you've believed in a fable.
and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie, that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
- 2nd Thessalonians 2:10-12
You may think that to believe in Jesus is to believe in a myth. If you will be honest and take another five minutes to read The Christian Faith: Answers for Critics , you will see that the scientific evidence does point to the Bible being infallible, and that Jesus did, in fact, raise from the dead.
After you have taken the few moments to read Seven Absurdities of Evolution and The Christian Faith: Answers for Critics , you may see that the atheist is in an indefensible position. If you continue to the next page, I will show you what the Bible says you must do to get into the Kingdom of Heaven.
And truly Jesus did many other signs in the presence of His disciples, which are not written in this book; but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name.

The problem
Even though we may desire to believe in God, we cannot do this by will-power alone. For instance, if you are convinced that Santa Claus is a myth, you will have many obstacles to overcome before you can truly believe that he is real. Suppose someone explained to you the advantages of believing, ''Santa Claus gives Christmas presents to those who believe in him!''. While we know that those who do believe get presents, it is not enough to make us believe. So it's not because of the lack of benefits that we cannot believe, but because of the lack of evidence.
However this paper is about a much more important question than Santa Claus. Perhaps the most important question of all is, did Jesus Christ rise from the dead? Unfortunately, just telling you, ''If you believe Jesus rose from the dead, you will get many benefits, including eternal life!'' isn't enough to make you believe. The good news, though. is that evidence does exist, and it is compelling, rational and complete (the evidence would have to be so, before a righteous God would hold you accountable to believe it). Do not remain ignorant; read The Christian Faith: Answers for Critics (skip the introduction) for a short paper that will get you started.
However, if you are an agnostic as an excuse not to serve God, I have no way to win your heart..
But [Jesus] answered and said, ''Every plant which My heavenly Father has not planted will be uprooted. Let them alone. They are blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind leads the blind, both will fall into a ditch.'' - Matthew 15:13-14
I also suggest that you read the Gospel of John. If you read it seeking the truth, John says that God will reveal himself to you.
And truly Jesus did many other signs in the presence of His disciples, which are not written in this book; but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name.
- John 20:30-31
God does not want you to be gullible as you read, but at the same time, if you read it determined to prove it false...well, it is impossible to wake a person who is pretending to be asleep.
And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.

The truth is that very few people do. That is why Jesus came.
And [Jesus] said to them, ''Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. - Mark 16:15
AND
For ''whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved.'' How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written:
'' How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, who bring glad tidings of good things!'' - Romans 10:13-15
If you do not know what God expects, please continue, and let me share the answer with you. Your ignorance of what God expects of you on the Judgment Day will not be an acceptable defense, if it is willful ignorance.

The truth is that none of us are good enough to go to Heaven. Let me share two passages out of the Gospel of Luke with you.
Also He [Jesus] spoke this parable to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others:
''Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, ‘God, I thank You that I am not like other men—extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this tax collector. I fast twice a week; I give tithes of all that I possess.’
And the tax collector, standing afar off, would not so much as raise his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me a sinner!’
I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.'' - Luke 18:9-14
This next passage in Luke describes a meal that Jesus had with a religious leader:
Then one of the Pharisees asked Him to eat with him. And He went to the Pharisee’s house, and sat down to eat. And behold, a woman in the city who was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at the table in the Pharisee’s house, brought an alabaster flask of fragrant oil, and stood at His feet behind Him weeping; and she began to wash His feet with her tears, and wiped them with the hair of her head; and she kissed His feet and anointed them with the fragrant oil.
Now when the Pharisee who had invited Him saw this, he spoke to himself, saying, ''This Man, if He were a prophet, would know who and what manner of woman this is who is touching Him, for she is a sinner.'' And Jesus answered and said to him, ''Simon, I have something to say to you.'' So he said, ''Teacher, say it.''
''There was a certain creditor who had two debtors. One owed five hundred denarii, and the other fifty. And when they had nothing with which to repay, he freely forgave them both. Tell Me, therefore, which of them will love him more?'' Simon answered and said, ''I suppose the one whom he forgave more.'' And He said to him, ''You have rightly judged.''
Then He turned to the woman and said to Simon, ''Do you see this woman? I entered your house; you gave Me no water for My feet, but she has washed My feet with her tears and wiped them with the hair of her head. You gave Me no kiss, but this woman has not ceased to kiss My feet since the time I came in. You did not anoint My head with oil, but this woman has anointed My feet with fragrant oil.
Therefore I say to you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven, for she loved much. But to whom little is forgiven, the same loves little.'' Then He said to her, ''Your sins are forgiven.'' - Luke 7:36-48

In my experience, there are usually two reasons why a person does not believe in The Kingdom of Heaven.
First: The person is an atheist. If this is your case, please read the answer for atheists.
Second: The person is religious, and their religion teaches that they will not go to heaven when they die. These people usually fall into one of two groups.
People who are part of a religion that does not believe the Bible. If this describes you, I humbly ask you to read our answer for agnostics, or at least click on Reasons To Believe that Jesus rose from the dead , before you discount Christianity.
People who are part of a religion that does believe the Bible, but like Seventh Day Adventists, or Jehovah witnesses, their denomination teaches they will spend eternity on earth. If you are in this second group please consider these passages.
From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand." - Matthew 4:17
Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
- Matthew 5:3
''Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.
- Matthew 7:21
And I say to you that many will come from east and west, and sit down with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven.
- Matthew 8:11
And [Jesus] said, "Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven."; - Matthew 18:3
But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you shut up the kingdom of heaven against men; for you neither go in yourselves, nor do you allow those who are entering to go in. - Matthew 23:13

And Jesus answered and spoke to them again by parables and said:
''The kingdom of heaven is like a certain king who arranged a marriage for his son, and sent out his servants to call those who were invited to the wedding; and they were not willing to come. Again, he sent out other servants, saying, ‘Tell those who are invited, ''See, I have prepared my dinner; my oxen and fatted cattle are killed, and all things are ready. Come to the wedding.''’ But they made light of it and went their ways, one to his own farm, another to his business. And the rest seized his servants, treated them spitefully, and killed them.
But when the king heard about it, he was furious. And he sent out his armies, destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city. Then he said to his servants, ‘The wedding is ready, but those who were invited were not worthy. Therefore go into the highways, and as many as you find, invite to the wedding.’ So those servants went out into the highways and gathered together all whom they found, both bad and good. And the wedding hall was filled with guests.
''But when the king came in to see the guests, he saw a man there who did not have on a wedding garment. So he said to him, ‘Friend, how did you come in here without a wedding garment?’ And he was speechless. Then the king said to the servants, ‘Bind him hand and foot, take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’
